Battery Chargers
Battery Chargers for Motorhomes, Caravans, Commercial Vehicles & Boats
Battery chargers for motorhome and caravan batteries
A reliable battery charger for motorhomes and caravans is a key component of the onboard power supply. When connected to a 230 V mains supply, the charger recharges the leisure battery, ensuring that stored energy is available for lighting, refrigeration and other electrical appliances.
The Dometic PerfectCharge battery chargers are designed for use in mobile electrical systems and offer different charging currents and connection options depending on the model. This provides suitable battery charging solutions for both 12 V and 24 V battery systems.
Dometic PerfectCharge MCA – battery chargers for 12 V and 24 V batteries
The Dometic PerfectCharge MCA series includes compact battery chargers for different power requirements. Various charging currents are available for 12 V battery systems, while other models are specifically designed for 24 V battery systems.
Multi-stage charging technology automatically controls the charging process and allows charging to be adapted to the respective battery type. Depending on the model, the chargers are suitable for lead-acid, gel, AGM and Li-ion batteries.
The different power levels make it possible to select a battery charger that matches the battery capacity and the respective onboard electrical system.
12 V or 24 V – which battery charger is right for you?
When selecting a battery charger, the rated voltage of the battery or battery bank to be charged is the first important consideration:
- 12 V battery chargers are designed for 12 V battery systems commonly used in motorhomes, caravans and recreational vehicles.
- 24 V battery chargers are suitable for corresponding 24 V battery systems, such as those found in larger vehicles, commercial vehicles and boats.
The charging current is another important factor. A higher charging current generally allows faster charging, but it must be suitable for the battery capacity, battery type and the battery manufacturer's specifications.
The Dometic PerfectCharge MCA battery chargers in this category cover different power ranges, allowing the appropriate charger to be selected for different battery systems.
Multiple charging outputs for more complex electrical systems
Depending on the model, PerfectCharge MCA battery chargers feature one, two or three main charging outputs. This makes them suitable for onboard electrical systems with multiple batteries or battery banks.
Selected models also feature a separate ESB output for the starter battery. This allows the starter battery to receive a limited maintenance charge in addition to charging the leisure battery.
The number and type of charging outputs depend on the respective PerfectCharge model and are specified in the technical details of each battery charger.
Dometic PerfectCharge MCP 1204 – compact 12 V battery charger
In addition to the MCA chargers designed for permanent installation, the range also includes the Dometic PerfectCharge MCP 1204. This compact 12 V battery charger uses a microprocessor-controlled 8-stage charging process and provides both battery charging and maintenance charging.
With a 4 A charging current, the MCP 1204 is particularly suitable for smaller 12 V batteries and applications where a compact and flexible charging solution is required.
From WAECO PerfectCharge to Dometic PerfectCharge
Many older motorhomes, caravans and other recreational vehicles still have battery chargers installed under the former WAECO PerfectCharge brand name. Following the integration of WAECO, the product family is now marketed under the Dometic PerfectCharge name.
Anyone who finds an older WAECO PerfectCharge charger in their vehicle and is looking for information about the existing unit, an operating manual or a possible replacement should therefore also consider the current Dometic PerfectCharge designation.
However, current Dometic models may differ technically from earlier WAECO units. When selecting a suitable battery charger, the most important factors are therefore the battery voltage, charging current, battery type and required charging outputs.
Choosing the right Dometic battery charger
When selecting a suitable battery charger, the main criteria to consider are the 12 V or 24 V battery voltage, required charging current, battery type, battery capacity and number of charging outputs required.
With the different Dometic PerfectCharge MCA and MCP battery chargers, solutions are available for a wide range of onboard electrical systems and power requirements – from compact chargers for smaller 12 V batteries to powerful multi-output chargers for larger battery systems.
