Inverters for Motorhomes & Caravans – Dometic SINEPOWER

An inverter for motorhomes or caravans allows you to operate electrical 230 V appliances even when no external mains power supply is available. The inverter converts the direct current (DC) from the vehicle battery into alternating current (AC).

The Dometic SINEPOWER DPSI inverters are designed for mobile applications and generate a pure sine wave. Depending on the model, versions are available for 12 V or 24 V electrical systems and in different power ratings. The range extends from compact inverters for smaller appliances to powerful models with up to 3000 W continuous power.

Which inverter is right for you?

When choosing a suitable inverter, the most important factors are the vehicle system voltage, required continuous power and power consumption of the connected appliances.

A 12 V inverter is designed for a 12 V electrical system, while a 24 V inverter is intended for a 24 V system. The inverter's continuous power rating should also be sufficient for the intended appliances. For devices with high starting or inrush currents, the additional short-term power requirement must also be taken into account.

Depending on the model, the Dometic SINEPOWER DPSI range offers 150 to 3000 W continuous power. This makes it possible to select an inverter according to the intended application rather than choosing solely on the basis of the highest wattage.

Pure sine wave for the 230 V power supply on board

The SINEPOWER DPSI models convert the direct current (DC) from the vehicle battery into 230 V alternating current (AC) with a pure sine wave. This provides an AC power supply on board that is also suitable for many electronic and more demanding appliances.

A sine wave describes the smooth, wave-shaped pattern of alternating voltage, as also used in the public mains power supply. A pure sine wave is particularly beneficial for electronic devices that depend on a clean and consistent power supply.

The required inverter power depends on the appliance being used. In addition to its rated power consumption, the short-term power requirement should also be considered, particularly for appliances with motors, compressors or other high starting currents.

DPSI inverters without an integrated transfer switch

The standard Dometic SINEPOWER DPSI inverters focus on converting the vehicle system voltage into pure 230 V sine wave AC power. They are available in various power ratings for 12 V and 24 V systems and are particularly suitable when an integrated automatic transfer between inverter power and an external mains supply is not required.

Depending on the model, different power reserves, energy-saving functions and options for integration into the vehicle's electrical system are available.

DPSI TS – inverters with integrated transfer switch

The SINEPOWER DPSI TS models combine a sine wave inverter with an integrated transfer switch.

When an external 230 V shore power supply is available at a campsite or motorhome stopover, for example, the connected appliances can be supplied from this external power source. If no external mains supply is available, the inverter supplies the appliances with power from the vehicle battery.

The TS series is available for 12 V and 24 V electrical systems and in different continuous power ratings. The inverter and transfer function are therefore combined in a single unit.

DPSI iTS – 1800 W inverters with advanced configuration options

The DPSI 1812iTS for 12 V and DPSI 1824iTS for 24 V are two additional SINEPOWER inverters, each offering 1800 W continuous power and an integrated transfer switch.

The iTS models provide a pure 230/240 V sine wave with an output voltage tolerance of ±3 % and short-term surge power of up to 3600 W for 2 seconds. They also feature a configurable energy-saving mode, allowing the switching behaviour to be adapted to different applications.

Thanks to N-BUS and CI-BUS support, the units can also be integrated into suitably equipped energy systems. Optional components are available for operation and display, depending on the required configuration.

12 V or 24 V inverter?

The choice between a 12 V and 24 V inverter depends on the existing vehicle electrical system. The inverter must match the voltage of the battery system.

12 V inverters are commonly used in motorhomes, campervans and other vehicles with a 12 V electrical system. 24 V inverters are intended for corresponding 24 V systems, which can also be found in larger vehicles and commercial vehicles.

The required output power should then be determined according to the 230 V appliances that are actually intended to be operated.

Choosing the right Dometic SINEPOWER inverter for your application

Whether you need a compact inverter for smaller appliances or a powerful 230 V power supply on board, the Dometic SINEPOWER DPSI range offers different power ratings for 12 V and 24 V electrical systems.

The following factors should be considered when choosing an inverter:

  • Vehicle system voltage: 12 V or 24 V
  • Continuous power: suitable for the power consumption of the intended appliances
  • Starting and surge power: particularly important for appliances with high starting currents
  • Transfer switch: depending on whether automatic switching between the vehicle battery and an external 230 V supply is required
  • Energy-saving and control functions: depending on the model and the desired integration into the vehicle's electrical system

The different power ratings and equipment options therefore make it possible to select the right inverter for a motorhome, caravan, campervan or other mobile application.
